Robot Beetle
This is one of my favourite models and is one I plan on continuing to model in my spare time. I originally created it in 3DS Max as part of an animation unit in college, the base model is just of 500k polys but most are located in the head and tail as they have the most detail. The style of the model is meant to feel both futuristic and steampunk. The futuristic element is depicted through the smooth and clean finish while the cogs are more rustic.
I rendered out this image using front, right and top lights as well as shadows and rim lights. After I had all the separate renders I brought them together in Photoshop where I edited the intensity, colour levels etc. and made it look as professional as I could.
I used ZBrush to polish the model and increase the poly count to just over 3 million. I am also going to use ZBrush to continue it's development, I still want to add pistons and mechanical parts to the inside as well as animate it.
